Intel updates Atom lineup; Eyes second half Nehalem push

Intel on 08-2009 Wednesday announced two new Atom processors for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) and rolled out new designs for the Chinese market.

The chip giant made the announcement in Beijing to coincide with its Atom chip’s 1-year anniversary. Atom is the platform that powers netbooks.

Among the items detailed by Intel (statement):

  • Intel’s two new Atom processors are the Z550 and Z515. These chips can now reach 2GHz in using less than 3 watts of power.
  • Anand Chandrasekher, Intel’s general manager of the Ultra Mobility Group, showed off new designs for the Chinese market.
  • Laptops based on Intel’s Nehalem processor will be available “in the second half of this year.”
  • Intel’s multi-socket Nehalem EX server processor will be in production in the second half too. Nehalem EX will offer eight cores for the so-called “intelligent server” market.

CES 2009: New HP Laptops

The tech industry is facing a slump, but for some that means innovation and will be the key to success. The annual Consumer Electronics Show 2009 saw a subdued reaction this year, but that had not prevented HP from revealing some new laptops coming out during the event.

In total there were five new laptops, being the Pavilion dv3z, dv6t, G70, a HP Mini 1000Mi and finally the Compaq Presario CQ60.

The most intriguing of the bunch is undoubtedly the Mini 1000Mi, which possibly stands for Mobile Internet and marks HP’s entry into the budget ultra-portable market competing with the likes of the Eee PC, Wind and others. It will be powered by a modified version of Ubuntu Linux, but I am sure most savvy consumers will have Windows XP up and running on these machines. The price is a cool $380, making it an affordable small computer, but the specs are notably absent from HP’s website. Wait and we shall see.

The next most affordable computer in the lineup is the CQ60, which will come in at a low $470 after an instant $200 rebate, and will be powered by AMD processor and a respectable 15.4inch screen. The price range makes it a good laptop to buy, but experience suggests that it will be big and bulky, not to mention heavy. But hey, it’s still a laptop!

The rest of the machines command even higher price tags and will be powered by different configurations, depending on your need. But in the end, they’re just simply yet another laptop, so there’s nothing much to say about them.

Latest Dell Studio XPS 13 Laptop Review - Features, Specs and Price

Dell Studio XPS 13 is not for professional use, but it will be wonderful if you use it to deal with your daily tasks. It has very strong performance, relatively solid build quality and good wireless capabilities mean it’s definitely worth a look, this is how it can be loved by so many people in such short time.

The Studio XPS 13 is the smaller, 13.3-inch sibling of the Studio XPS 16, it is very light and so very convenient to bring with you wherever you go, it is most popular among college students. It is a good choice to bring it to your classroom so you can take note easily.

Dell has shown us 4 reasons to choose Dell Studio XPS 13:

  • Premium design with genuine leather accents, anodized aluminum, “edge-to-edge” display and backlit keyboard
  • The latest Intel® Core™2 Duo processors for blazing fast performance
  • Optional NVIDIA® Hybrid SLI graphics deliver incredibly lifelike videos, movies and gaming
  • Automated hi-def up-conversion allows you to watch all your DVD movies in brilliant HD

These are very wonderful features we can get from Dell Studio XPS 13 laptop.

The better things are: Studio XPS 13 is designed to be quicker and more efficient than the XPS M1330. It uses a range of “performance optimised” P-series Core 2 Duo CPUs, instead of the T-series “performance” chips used in the M1330. P-series CPUs have the advantage of a faster 1066MHz front-side bus (versus 667MHz to 800MHz on the T series) and a lower thermal envelope, meaning potentially longer battery life. Our sample uses the most potent core components available on the Studio XPS 13 — a 2.53GHz Intel P9500 CPU with 6MB of L2 cache, alongside 4GB of 1066MHz DDR3 RAM. Thankfully, Dell offers the option for a 64-bit version of Vista so you can use 4GB RAM and above effectively. With such high configurations, it can process complicated tasks very fast and well, so you don’t need to wait when you are using it for working.

Prediction: Nokia enters the laptop market in '09?

The laptops are aimed at buyers on tight budgets and include some of the latest storage, security and videoconferencing technologies. The laptops also support solid-state drive (SSD) storage, which is faster and more power-efficient than hard-drive storage.

Screen sizes on the laptops are 13.3 inches for the Vostro 1320, 15.4 inches for the Vostro 1520 and 17 inches for the Vostro 1720. The laptops include enhanced security capabilities to protect data, with fingerprint readers that can authenticate users to log on to the system and software from Wave Systems that encrypts hard drives.

The systems will come with Intel Core 2 Duo or Celeron processors and run on Windows Vista OS, with the option to downgrade to Windows XP.

Users have the option of integrated graphics or a separate Nvidia GeForce graphics card. The systems support up to 8GB of DDR2 memory with up to 320GB in hard-drive storage or 128GB in SSD storage.

A Dell spokeswoman couldn't estimate battery life on the laptops, as it depends on how customers configure the systems.

Starting at US$569, the 1320 laptop weighs 4.1 pounds (1.86 kg) with a 4-cell battery and no optical drive. The 1520 starts at $629 and weighs 5.38 pounds. The 1720 starts at $649 and weighs 6.8 pounds.

The products are available in North America and a few South American countries starting Thursday. They will be available in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) April 7, and in some countries in Asia in May

Dell frees latest Vostro laptops of bloatware

Dell introduced small-business laptops that will be free of bloatware, which could help improve system performance and protect storage space.

The Vostro laptops will be preloaded only with software that is requested by buyers, Dell said. Bloatware refers to trial software that laptop makers often load onto new machines. Software publishers often pay PC manufacturers to include trial versions on computers. Common types of trial software include office productivity and accounting applications. Bloatware can be a headache for users, as it takes away system resources like storage space and could potentially introduce unwanted security vulnerabilities.

Dell taking Art House laptops made-to-order in 2009

Dell's been taking its design new directions for a while now, but it looks the company's war on boring is about to get personal. Ed Boyd, Dell's new Industrial Design Director, told BusinessWeek that Dell also plans on launching customizable computers with "scores of colors, patterns, and textures," and options that will "go far beyond the handful of choices available" from most rivals. We assume he just means the exterior, though that's unclear, so we'll keep our fingers crossed for that hot pink keyboard. There are also no details yet on which models will be up for customization or their pricing, but the other Art House models range from $649 to $800, so our uncle probably won't have to break the bank to unveil his edgy laptop graffiti when these hit sometime next year. Can't hardly wait.

HP finally introduces Core i7 desktops

Both Dell and Gateway launched Core i7 PCs in time with Intel's announcement of its new chip family last November. We don't know why HP has waited to make the switch, but with today's announcement of the Pavilion Elite m9600 desktop series, a quad-core Core i7-equipped HP can be yours starting at $949.

We've found Intel's Core i7 chips very fast, especially in the most demanding tasks like consumer-level digital media editing and multitasking. Core i7 has also been hailed as an expensive platform, as Intel is the only source for the necessary motherboard chipset, which also requires DDR3 memory, a pricier standard than more common DDR2 RAM. Those extra expenses are largely why AMD's Phenom and Phenom II, and Intel's own Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad chips are still common in lower-end retail desktops, although it remains likely that Intel will continue to ease pricing throughout 2009 to ensure wider Core i7 adoption.

Options for HP's new configurable Pavilion Elite m9600's are otherwise unremarkable. The only exception might be that the default 3D card, an Nvidia GeForce 9600GS, has 768MB of RAM, and all of the step-up models are 1GB cards. And here we'd just gotten used to the proliferation of 512MB cards. The larger video memory allotments won't guarantee fast PC gaming for all, but they will certainly help.

If you want to purchase a Core i7-based Pavilion Elite, HP's Web site is your only source for the moment, although we're sure the retail models won't be too far behind. That said, Dell's Core i7 Studio XPS systems start at $799. Dell's 3D card offerings include only 256MB and 512MB options, so you do lose a step in gaming performance, but if all you want is raw CPU power at the best price, it's hard to justify the HP's $949 starter price tag when Dell has such an aggressive bargain.

Asustek to launch new Eee PC with built-in ODD in mid-April

Asustek Computer is scheduled to launch its new Eee PC, the E1004DN, which will be the first Eee PC to have an optical disc drive (ODD), in mid-April, and will follow with the 1008HA in May, according to sources at retail channels.

The E1004DN is built with an Intel Atom N280 CPU paired with GN40 chipset, a 120GB hard drive, and will carry a suggested retail price of NT$18,000-20,000 (US$531-590).

Dell sees 2009 contraction in Asia amid sales slump

TAIPEI (Reuters) - Dell Inc expects its Asia revenue to fall this year, amid heated competition and the global slowdown, but it still expects to pick up share in the PC markets in China and India, a top executive said on Friday.

Asia Pacific revenue for Dell, the world's No. 2 PC maker, slipped 12 percent in the fourth quarter from a year earlier due to a sharp decline in demand, Steve Felice, regional head of small and medium businesses, told reporters in a teleconference.

"We really don't know the length and depth of this slowdown," said Felice. "Our anticipation is that this will continue, and we do expect a contraction in the calendar year 2009."

While regional revenue growth could contract, Dell said it is still aiming to maintain or boost its market share this year in China and India as it continues to expand its footprint in two of Asia's biggest markets.

Dell's share of the overall PC market in China grew by 21 percent in 2008 to 8.5 percent of the overall market, while its market share in India grew by 24.2 percent in the final quarter of last year, according to research firm Gartner.

"We always want to grow at or faster than the market, and we haven't changed our goals," said Felice. "We want to grow faster than the overall industry."

Research firm IDC expects the overall PC market in China to grow by 4 percent this year in terms of revenue, while it expects India to contract by 3 percent.

Dell posted a sharper-than-expected fall in quarterly revenue on Thursday as consumers bought cheaper personal computers and overall demand remained weak, but cost cuts helped profit beat Wall Street forecasts.

The company is in the midst of a broader overhaul first announced last year and spearheaded by founder Michael Dell.

When asked about possible job cuts, Felice declined to go into specifics, but said that Asia had seen the least number of cuts compared with other regions, and he expected the trend to continue.

"Headcount cuts are very low in Asia, and we intend to keep it that way," he said. "We have increased employment in areas where there is a need, and we still have a substantial headcount in many markets."

Some analysts say Dell is more vulnerable to the slump in PC and computer hardware demand compared with global leader Hewlett-Packard , and investors have beaten down Dell's shares more than 65 percent over the past six months.

In contrast, HP's shares are down about 35 percent over the same period. Dell also competes with Taiwan's Acer <2353.tw> and China's Lenovo <0992.hk>, the world's third and fourth biggest PC brands, on the global stage.

The PC sector stood relatively resilient against a larger slump in the tech industry last year, but it too has now been caught in the deepening economic slowdown that has hit demand from consumers and corporate buyers.

Best Buy Laptop On A Budget, Acer Aspire One Mini

If you’re shopping for a laptop as your primary workstation, your main computer, it’s easier to afford the top of the line, newest, freshest, most powerful laptop. However, if you only need a computer to work on while you’re travelling, when you’re out about town, or if you just don’t have a ton of cash to blow, you’ll want to look for a great budget laptop.

Now, the last thing you want to do is head into the local electronics store and snatch up whatever costs the least. If you do that, nine times out of ten, you’re actually going to wind up paying more than your new machine is actually worth. It’s entirely possible to get a good, up to date laptop for the same price you’d expect to pay for a lesser quality machine.

Here are a few of the best buy laptops available, combining great performance with low cost…

Acer Aspire AS5920-6959

aceraspireas5920 200 Best Buy Laptop On A Budget, Acer Aspire One Mini

At about $750 new, this may be at the higher end of the budget spectrum. However, the unit gives the kind of performance you might expect from something that costs twice as much. The system is built around an Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 core processor, which is just about the best processor you’re going to find within this price range. The 320GB hard drive is about twice as big as the HD you’ll find in most $750 laptops.

If there’s a downside, it’s that the unit is kind of chunky, being one of the biggest 15.4 inch laptops out there today. Still, if you’ve got seven to eight hundred bucks to spend on your laptop, this one may well be your best bet.

Acer Aspire One Mini A150-1006 Netbook

aceraspireone4 01 Best Buy Laptop On A Budget, Acer Aspire One Mini

Simple and high quality. With only about half as much HD and an Intel Atom N270, rather than the Core 2 Duo, this one isn’t quite as powerful as the laptop listed above, but it’s slimmer, ultra-lightweight, and can be found at anywhere from $400 to $500 new. The above listed unit would make a fine primary workstation, whereas this unit is geared towards people who just need something for basic use when out and about. It’s designed more for cost-effectiveness and portability than power, but it’s still a relatively capable little machine when you consider the price tag.

Super-Cheapies

A rising trend these days, certain companies are releasing super-cheap laptops at anywhere from $150 to $200 in an effort to provide opportunities to students from working class families and in poorer parts of the world. The problem is that these machines usually have, well, laughable hardware. The cheapest would be the Medison Celebrity, at just $150. It boasts a whopping 256MB of memory! To put that in perspective, that’s less than 1/100 the storage space of the Acer Aspire we first listed. If you’re a graphic designer, don’t even think about these super-budget laptops. However, what do you need your laptop for? Just writing e-mails? Visiting a few websites or just writing? If your needs are simple, you might actually want to think about getting one of these ultra-budget units… just bear in mind that your cell phone probably packs more power!

Gateway P-6831FX

gateway p series 1 11 Best Gaming Laptop Of 2008

Now this is more like it. At just over $1300, the Gateway P-6831FX is a solid rig for any gamer without a trust fund. The P-6831FX looks like the similar and somewhat more powerful P-171XL FX Edition, but costs about half as much, and still offers high powered graphics. The monitor is large and crisp, and it comes with plenty of ports for multimedia connectivity.

The rig features an Intel Core 2 Duo 5450 CPU 1.67 GHz processor, 3GB DDR2 RAM, 250 GB HDD 5400 rpm, and a 17” screen. Really, this is the kind of performance you might expect of a machine costing three times this much.

Best Gaming Laptop Of 2008

When console gamers whine about the constant upgrades being too difficult to keep up with, PC gamers just chuckle under their breath and try their best to humor them. There’s something new every day, and you know that if you don’t get the absolute best gaming laptop or PC on the market today, it’s going to be obsolete by tomorrow. All we can really do is sigh; that’s the price you pay when you have a real passion for gaming.

With that in mind, here are a couple of the best gaming notebooks of 2008…

Best Performance

Alienware Area-51 m15x

alienware Best Gaming Laptop Of 2008

The m15x may surprise you. It’s basically a top of the line gaming PC crammed into a notebook. The system boasts an Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000 processor and Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX graphics, and it’s equipped with a nice, sharp, fifteen and a half inch screen. It’s ultra light for portability, and… it looks really, really cool, with six lighting zones. This is why they call themselves “Alienware”; with the LED lit keyboard and touchpad, it looks more like the controls of an alien spacecraft than a gaming laptop.

The downside is the stiff price tag. Take a deep breath and sit down before we tell you:

$5000

Even if the m15x is basically the best laptop rig out there, and it’s not going obsolete anytime soon, the price tag really seems to limit its audience to the super rich, or people willing to take a second job just to play video games. Kind of a shame, really, but if you’re willing to spend that much on a gaming rig, you really can’t do much better. This is for the most discerning (and financially comfortable) gamers out there, but it is worth the price if you can afford it.

Best Buy Laptop

Somebody who plays games will have a different ‘best buy’ to someone wanting to run a small office from home. If your laptop is your home media center with films and music stored on it then when you buy your next laptop it will have different specification to a businessman who wants a small, lightweight, extremely portable option.

dell inspiron 1521 jb Best Buy Laptops

But the questions don’t stop there. Once you have put yourself into a category you then have to decide the following. What criteria are you using to assume the laptop you are looking at is really a better buy than the one next to it? The amount of fancy numbers in the specification that is provided, such as memory, RAM or the processor? The fact that it is just so obviously much cheaper and affordable to you? Or what about choosing a well proven design and brand of laptop over a newer more recent addition to the market?

I think it is unfair, to the buyer, to list exact individual models when it comes to this category. The decision of what is ‘the best buy laptop’ is actually yours, not ours or anyone else’s, to make.

Firstly, decide what you want to use the laptop for and read up on laptop specifications, hardware, software, etc, that allow you to do so. Then consider your budget, allowing for the millions of optional extras that are available with laptops. Now, with budget and a rough idea of what you want in your computer have a look around for comparable models. When eventually you have made a short list read up on the good and bad things about each model. Visit forums or chat rooms to hear what other users have to say.

In the end you should only have to choose between 2 or 3 to find the best laptop for you. The last thing I use to decide the final winner is ‘looks’ - I spend many hours a day on my laptop and, especially first thing in the morning, I want to walk up to a sleek and sexy looking piece of computer hardware!

Dell's Latest Laptop

When it comes to mobile computing systems few companies are able to claim families of products so successful as Dell which just announced the 10th anniversary of the Precision lineup and the company decided to launch a special edition laptop just for this occasion. The Precision M6300 notebook is here now to replace the older Precision M90 model and it is aimed at the business market.

From the outside the new Dell laptop, the Precision M6300, features a "Road Ready" chassis design based on a magnesium alloy casing which allowed the manufacturing company to reduce the total weight of the laptop. On the hardware department, the Precision M6300 is based on Intel's mobile computing platform, the Santa Rosa. As a central processing unit the M6300 comes equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo X7900 CPU which has a standard running frequency of 2.8GHz as well as a frontside bus speed of 800MHz. Just like most other notebooks based on the Intel Santa Rosa platform, the new Dell comes with a maximum of 4GB DDR2 of random access memory which is fully supported thanks to the 36-bit addressing system, even for 32-bit operati
ng systems. The M6300 comes with a discrete graphics card based on the Nvidia Quadro FX 1600M graphics processing units which has 256MB of dedicated video memory and can additionally share 256MB because of the implemented TurboCache technology.

The Precision M6300 notebook comes with two native widescreen resolutions, the WXGA+ (1440x900) and the WUXGA (1920x1200), as well as an anti-glare special coating and the TrueLife technology. While now LED backlighting is not yet available, Dell representatives are certain that this option will appear later. Storage options are rich for the Dell Precision M6300 as the laptop comes with a wide selection of hard disk drives up to 200GB and 7200rpm as well as an encrypted HDD with 120GB of storage space. As an option, a SanDisk made solid state drive of 32
GB is also available as are a wide range of optical drives including DVD and Blu-ray burners.

Wireless networking is of course present in the form of an 802.11a/g/n compatible chip made by either Dell or Intel; also present are six high speed USB ports as well as FireWire, Bluetooth and a multi format card reader. As the precision M6300 is intended as a business laptop, Dell also included a number of security features like an optional UPEK fingerprint reader. "Customers buy workstations because they need maximum performance to get a job done," said Dell Product Group VP Vivek Mohindra. "The M6300 is ideal for customers who want to run demanding professional applications no matter where they are."

Lenovo ThinkPad T60 business laptop

A very nice corporate laptop, the Lenovo ThinkPad T60 is ideal for on-the-go executives who chafe at ultraportable limitations.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T60 is big enough to have a 14.1in screen and a first-rate keyboard, yet plenty light enough to carry, at 2.6kg. Battery life with the nine-cell upgrade included with our £1,350 review unit was superb.

Our test Lenovo ThinkPad T60 came with Windows Vista Business and featured a 2GHz Core 2 Duo T7200 processor and 1GB of RAM. It performed well in our tests. In the WorldBench 6 Beta 2 real-world speed benchmark, the T60 scored a slightly better-than-average 69. In battery testing it endured for almost five hours on a single charge of its upgrade battery, one of the best times we've recorded for a Vista laptop.

Better yet, the Lenovo ThinkPad T60 has a modular bay that can hold another battery (instead of the dual-layer DVD rewritable drive), so you can work from two batteries at once.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T60 is a sturdy, slim unit with the ThinkPad's classic black case. Among many useful features, the great keyboard includes browser back and forward keys, and touchpad and eraserhead pointing devices.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T60's screen is of a standard aspect ratio - instead of the wide-aspect design most notebook vendors have switched to - and it uses a matte rather than a glossy finish, but it's reasonably bright and not at all bulky. All of the basic connections - USB, audio, video, and communications ports - are present in the Lenovo ThinkPad T60, including an ExpressCard slot. But the unit lacks a FireWire port and memory-card slots. The stereo speakers are a bit weak.

The Best Business Laptop For Your Company

The little notebook computer or laptop is tailor made for business.
It's the perfect communication tool. It's the perfect record keeping
tool. It's the perfect presentation tool. And if that wasn't enough,
all of the above is neatly packaged into a small portable machine
that can be taken anywhere and everywhere.

For any size business, small to medium to jumbo, the notebook
computer is fast becoming an essential tool for business.

Savvy business people know acquiring the right tools is an important
factor in determining the success or profitability of any company.
Therefore, along with the regular outfitting of your company or
business - equal consideration should be given to choosing your
notebook computers.

Business owners should be aware that notebook technology is changing at
a blistering pace. Every two years or so, there is a whole new generation
of notebooks and notebook technology to consider. Notebooks are getting
smaller, faster, and better connected. They are also offering performance that
is matching or almost matching their desktop rivals.

Major reasons why, for the first time in history, notebook computers
are outselling their bigger cousins, desktop computers. Business
buying, no doubt, plays a significant role in all those sales. Large
corporate organizations are buying notebooks for their companies, sales
people and employees. It makes for a more competitive company in a very
competitive world.

But how do you pick a good business notebook computer? What's the criteria
for judging a good machine? What's the right laptop or notebook for your
company or sales staff?

Here are some important factors any business should consider when buying
a notebook computer or laptop for their company. General factors that
determine a good business notebook. Consider these...

Portability

Perhaps, the most significant factor and the main reason you're buying
a notebook computer is portability. You can take it anywhere. You can
take your records, reports, presentations or products where ever they
need to be. For the business traveler or 'road warrior', the notebook
computer is an essential tool for their business.

When buying their notebook of choice, these 'road warriors' look
at the portability of their notebook. Size and weight are very
important. They want something that's light and small, yet powerful
enough to do the job. They will probably look in the Ultra-Portable and
Thin and Light classes of notebooks to make their choice.

Notebooks in those categories are usually well under 5 pounds, around
10 by 14 inches in size and approximately an inch thick. Small enough
to throw in a briefcase or tuck comfortably under your arm. They won't
drain your energy even if you have to lug it around all day!

Battery Life

You also have to look for a notebook computer that will last long
enough to get the job done. You want sufficient battery life for those
long plane trips. Fortunately, battery life is increasing, you can now get
up to 5 or more hours on high quality notebooks. Buy the highest
numbered cell battery, and buy any optional built-in battery extras
that will increase battery life.

Connectivity

You want something that's easy to connect to the Internet
so connectivity is another important factor. Being in constant
contact with all your employees can be a determining factor in your
choice of notebooks. Communication is vital. Most high quality
notebooks come with Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) connections,
many have a tri-mode 802.11a/b/g wireless system.

Some newer models, like the Sony's New Ultra-Portable VAIO VGN-T350P,
are raising the bar, it has the world's first 'Built-in Cellular
Modem'. You can use your cell phone to connect to the Internet. This may
be a great advantage since finding a 'Hot Spot' in some parts of the world
can still be difficult.

Performance

You need to consider the performance level of your business computer.
Can it handle all your company's demands, can it handle heavy graphics,
charts, diagrams, spreadsheets, etc. Check out the RAM -- higher RAM will be
better for graphics and video. It's generally agreed that you need at least
256MB for Windows XP and Mac OS X. You will only need 128MB for other
operating systems in Windows or Mac.

Most notebooks come with plenty of storage space, 60-80 GIG hard drives
are common. External drives are also available if you need extra
space.

Other tasks may be important to your line of business. For example, if
you need to take notes in the field, i.e. real estate agents, engineers,
doctors or medical personnel -- then a slate or a convertible tablet
may be a better choice for your company.

Sturdiness

This is important if you want a notebook for a lot of road work or
business traveling. Your notebook should be sturdy or ruggerized to
be able to take a good pounding. Many notebooks have some novel
sturdiness features such as IBM's Active Protection System which is
designed to protect the hard drive from falls and spills for those
accident prone notebook users in your company.

Security

Living in today's world we need safeguards and security measures
in place to protect your company records and files. Not to
mention, to guard against the theft of your notebook computer itself.
Along those same lines your notebook computer should have advanced
security features. Many notebooks such as the IBM/Sonoma ThinkPad
series include an integrated fingerprint scanner for biometric
authentication that uses an Embedded Security Subsystem and Password
Manager.

Image/Style

At first glance this may seem like a superficial buying point, but
not really. In today's business world, image or style does count and
contribute to your button line. Sad but true! You want a notebook
computer that matches the image of your company.

There is one to fit your needs, you have a whole range of styles
of notebooks to choose from, whether it be conservative black or
blazing race car red. Most businesses are ultra-conservative (nature
of the beast) and should pick a notebook along those conservative lines, other businesses may want to promote a sharper or cooler image
such as in fashion, creative arts, music industry...

Price

Economy or Deluxe. Similar to the style, another major buying
factor is price. You can go from inexpensive notebooks
to luxury models. It all depends on your company's resources
and the image you want to project.

You can choose from the relatively inexpensive but very capable
DELL notebooks...all the way up to notebook manufacturers like the
UK based Rockdirect notebooks which offers upper end products that
can be custom made to your specs. You can even choose your own color!

Like any company purchase, especially if you're buying in bulk,
getting a good special volume price may play a role in your choice
of notebook. Always check with these notebook companies for a
group or company order -- you may be pleasantly surprised at the
savings.

However, don't sacrifice performance for a special price, make sure
the notebook computer you're buying has all the desired qualities:
portability, performance, battery life, connectivity, security and style,
-- all the features you want in your company's notebook computer.
If you consider all these factors, your next business notebook computer
purchase should just be a little bit easier.

There's no reason why you can't put this little modern workhorse to work
for your business or company. Used properly, the business laptop can
make for a well organized and cohesive work force that will pay big
dividends down the road, delivering a great return on your initial
investment.

New LCD, new motherboard, Dell C610

Okay here is goes, I have been searching for an answer for days now and I could really use some help. I had originally bought a new LCD display for my Dell C610. Dell had my LCD display listed as a SXGA but when I opened it up it was an SVGA and I needed then to buy a new ribbon for the screen to work. Now after I replaced the ribbon and everything worked for two days. Then the coupler on the power strip below the LCD screen came loose and shorted out my motherboard. The company where I bought the new LCD and the ribbon replaced my motherboard with a new one. Now my screen color is really bad and the screen is a lot larger than the LCD screen. I have a Radeon Mobility AGP driver, I am at my whits end and could please use some help.
